Edna Viola (Shantz) Yoder
Obituary
NEWTON — Edna Viola (Shantz) Yoder, 90, daughter of Samuel
and Ida Steckley Shantz, was born on Nov. 11, 1921, in Didsbury, Alberta,
Canada. She passed away on Friday (Jan. 27, 2012) at Newton Medical Center in
Newton.
On Sept. 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Rollin J.
Yoder. Their home was blessed with four children: Clifford, their son, and
three daughters, Yvonne, and the twins, Shirley and Sharon.
Edna moved to Hesston in 1959. She was a member of Hesston
Mennonite Church, and her faith and fellowship with the church community were
central themes of her life. She retired from her position as head teller at
Hesston State Bank in 1988. She loved sports, history, crossword puzzles,
reading, traveling, and spent her life dedicated to learning and enriching the
lives of those around her.
She is survived by her son, Clifford and his wife, Mary
Yoder, of Catoosa, Okla.; daughter, Yvonne and husband, Gerald Sieber of
Hesston; daughter, Shirley and husband, Byron Oberst of Bend, Ore.; six
grandchildren, Kevin Yoder and wife, Michelle of Catoosa, Okla., Kim Snyder and
husband, Bruce of Tulsa, Okla., Stephanie Wilson and husband, Rick of Colorado
Springs, Colo., Curtis Yoder of Tavares, Fla., Kendra Morford and husband,
Lonnie of Hesston, and Kelli Mowry and husband, Brian of Everett, Wash.; 13
great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her former spouse; daughter,
Sharon; parents; and siblings, Veretta, Verda, Alberta and Willard.
There was a visitation and funeral service on Monday.
A memorial fund has been designated in support of the Good
Samaritan Fund at Schowalter Villa, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S.
