Mary Marcheta Holdeman, 86, died on Friday (May 6, 2011) at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
She was born on August 11, 1924, in Newton to Helen (Zarnowski) and Gus Walters.
Marcheta was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
She worked as a legal secretary for more than 25 years with Nye and Nye law firm, and also worked more than 30 years as a medical secretary and transcriptionist at the Bethel Clinic, Doctors' Park and Newton Surgery Center.
Marcheta volunteered her time with the Women's Center and Newton Medical Center. The last few years, she also worked as a greeter for visitations with Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Pat Anderson of Fayettville, Ark., and Kathee (John) Vaught of El Dorado; five grandsons, Mitchel Anderson, Travis Anderson, Garrett (Ashley) Crider, Hudson Vaught and Sander Vaught; and two great-grandchildren, Peyton Anderson and Bently Crider.
Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers, Bernard, Cecil, Roy, Floyd and Charles; and three sisters, Gertrude, Irene and Evelyn.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Mainzer will be the celebrant.
There will be a private family inurnment at a later date.
