Walter E. Regier, 89, of Elbing, died on Monday, May 16, 2011, at Memorial Home of Pine Village in Moundridge.
He was born on January 3, 1922, in Newton, to Bernhard P. and Elizabeth (Penner) Regier of Elbing.
On May 12, 1950, he married Frieda E. Goering, who preceded him in death June 4, 2004.
Walter farmed and worked as a linotype operator in Peabody and later in Newton.
He is survived by four children: Maeanna (Bart) Regier of Burrton, Bernard D. (Evelyn) Regier of rural Newton, Marcia (John) Stoesz of Newton, Janice Regier (Eldon Esau) of rural Whitewater; grandchildren: Larry (Sharon) Finley, Joe (Amy) Regier, John Regier (Gelisa), Christa (Tracy) Jahay, Joshua Finley, Kevin (Heather) Finley, Aaron (Jennifer) Esau, Abigail Regier, Gretchen Regier, Simon Esau,and Bernard Regier; twelve great-grandchildren, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Martha Sundgren, Rosella and Ray Brandt, Leonard and Delores Goering all of North Newton, Joan and Tony Epp of Goessel, John and Orletta Goering of Gresham, OR, Jim and Ida Goering of Dayton, VA, Harry and Rosie Goering of Menifee, CA, Hildred Goering of Ayden, NC; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, seven siblings and their spouses: Bernhard Regier, Linda (Gus) Regier, Martha (George) Quenzer, Marie (Willie) Klingenberg, Edith (Stanley) Wedel, Olga (Albert) Quenzer and Robert (Hilda) Regier; brothers- and sisters-in-law Elva (Dan) Goering, Walt (Della) Goering, Alvin Goering, Bill (Alice) Goering, Dan (Grace) Goering, Herb (Dorothea) Goering, Archer Sundgren, Art Goering, Ralph Goering, Larry Goering.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, at Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater. Burial will be at Zion Mennonite Church cemetery near Elbing at 9:30 am Saturday, May 21, 2011, followed by services at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing at 11:00 am.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Home at Pine Village, Moundridge, KS or Zion Mennonite Church, Elbing, KS designated for sound system improvements.
