Richard Garcia, 58, died on Tuesday (March 1, 2011) at his home in Newton.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1952, to Margaret (Torres) and Guadalupe Garcia in Newton.
Richard was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.
He had many hobbies in life. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football, taking walks and spending time with his grandchildren.
On March 21, 1972, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served a two-year term. He was discharged on Sept. 20, 1974.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret; daughters, Kristin Garcia and husband, Mitch, of Denton, Texas, and Jasmine James and husband, Raymond, of Wichita; two sons, Michael Parks of Derby and Jeffrey Jones and wife, Melissa, of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Anthony Garcia and wife, Tami, of Newton and Timothy Garcia of Sydney, Australia; three sisters, Cynthia Becker of Newton, Trudy Garcia-Wadley of Newton and Annette Garcia of Newton; and 13 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his father; a granddaughter, Mahnesha James; and a brother, Steven Garcia.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, with the family greeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Newton.
Funeral Mass will follow the Rosary at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Father Juan Garza will preside.
Memorials may be made to the Richard Garcia Family Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home at 120 E. Broadway in Newton.
