Wilma Jean Harber (Stanford), 69, died on Saturday (March 19, 2011) at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Via Christi, in Wichita.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1941, to Evelyn Stinson and Alvin Carder in Elvin, Mo.
Wilma earned her bachelor and master of science degrees in education through Wichita State University.
She was a teacher in the middle school area for many years and also worked as an elementary counselor in the Hutchinson area.
Wilma had a membership with New Life Assembly of God Church in Newton. She also taught Sunday school classes and offered home Bible school lessons. The church was very important to Wilma and a big part of her life.
She had a special talent for art. Wilma loved to draw, paint and write children's stories.
Survivors include four sons, Gerry and wife, Helen Stanford of Peabody, Terry and Ramie Stanford of Burrton, Darren Stanford of Burrton, and Joseph and wife, Sandy Stanford of Beckely, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Darlene Brown.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family greeting from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Life Assembly of God Church, 818 Washington Road in Newton. Pastor Roger Scantlin will preside.
Burial will be in Burrton.
