Obituary

Ruth A. Austin, 79, died Friday (April 14, 2017) at her home in Newton.

She was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to William and Edyth (Finley) Maynard.

She was a former elementary teacher and homemaker.

Survivors include son, Kenneth (Barbara) Austin of Emporia; daughters, Debra (Randy) Penick, St. Joseph, Missouri, Diane (Dr. John) DeGrado of Newton and Denise (John) French of Wichita; brother, Everett (Tita) Maynard of Aberdeen, South Dakota; sisters, Esther Horvath of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Mary Craig of Marion, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers, William and Charles Maynard; and a sister, Betty Worm.

Private services will be held.

Memorials may be given to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
