Obituary
Shirley J. "Lee" Elliott, 88,
died on Thursday (April 20, 2017) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
She was born on Aug. 20, 1928, in
Newton, to Leota B. (Jordan) and Irvin W. Elliott.
Shirley graduated from Kansas
University with a master's degree in Art. She was also a member of
Delta Sigma Theta. Before entering retirement, Shirley was employed
by Prairie View Mental Health Center and was the director of arts and
crafts.
She was a member of St. Matthew's
Episcopal Church of Newton, where she also served as a member of the
Altar Guild.
Art was her favorite pastime and also
her career. However, she certainly loved her springtime gardening.
Preceding her in death were her
parents; a brother, Irvin Wesley Elliott; and a sister, Virginia Lee
Elliot-Blair-Davis.
Survivors include nephews, Frederick
Blair, Ted Blair and Derek Elliott; niece, Laura Thomas; and a host
of more nieces, nephews, and grand and great nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m.
Wednesday (April 26, 2017) at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Father
Les Jackson will be officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be made in Shirley's name
to Caring Hands Humane Society, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, St.
Joseph's Indian School or Fisk University, Life and Physical
Sciences, in care of the funeral home at 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS
