Janice Ann Sevilla
(1938 to 2017)
Obituary
Janice Ann (Waltner) Sevilla, born July
26, 1938, passed away from natural causes on Saturday (April 22,
2017) at Bethesda Home in Goessel, where she had been a resident for
a substantial period of time. She was the daughter of Milford Waltner
and Ann (Goering) Waltner.
Janice graduated from McPherson High
School in 1956 and Bethel College, in North Newton, in 1961, after
spending one year (1958 to 1959) in Wuppertal, Germany, as an
exchange student. After graduation, she accepted a teaching position
in Denver, Colorado.
In 1964, she married Jerry Sevilla. In
1966, they both accepted teaching positions in the Cleveland, Ohio,
school system, and moved to Eastlake Ohio. She was an English
teacher, who loved putting on theatrical programs with her students.
Then she was a librarian in the Cleveland system, until she became
disabled by MS. Eventually, as the disease progressed, she was
admitted to Bethesda Home, where she lived until her death.
Although disabled, she spent her time
creatively writing poetry, an effort that resulted in her publishing
a book of her poetry in 1999, entitled "Through A Lens Oblique."
The poems reflect on her life experiences, including the challenges
of living with disabilities.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry
Sevilla of Eastlake, Ohio; her sister, Aileen (Waltner) Miller of
Oklahoma City; her brother, Douglas Waltner of Easton, Pennsylvania;
and her sister, Donna (Waltner) Boesker of Wichita.
A celebration of her life will be at 10
a.m. on Friday (April 28, 2017) at the Bethesda Home Chapel in
Goessel, with Chaplain Gail Graber presiding.
Memorial contributions may be made to
the Bethesda Home, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Goessel.
