VERA M. HOLDEMAN

Obituary

Vera M. Holdeman, 91, of Newton died Monday (May 22, 2017). She was born Feb. 13, 1926, near Halstead. She attended Halstead Grade School and graduated from Halstead High School in 1944. Vera was a member of Newton Christian Church in Newton.

She married Lacy R. Holdeman Oct. 11, 1946, in North Newton. They lived in Newton for 39 years until Lacy retired and then they moved to Highland, Arkansas, in 1985 and were there until Lacy's death Feb. 1, 2006.

Vera was a stay at home mom, raising her five children until they graduated from Newton High School and then went to work at Axtell Christian Hospital. Vera loved to read, sew, knit and crochet. She loved her family dearly and would do anything for each and every one of us, if needed.

She is survived by her children, Esther Sue Holdeman, Marilyn Rae (John) Davis, Jay Kent Holdeman, Dawn Faye (Jerry) Clark and Cynthia Lou (Ron) Sartain, all of Newton. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and five step-great-great- grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday (May 26, 2017) at Newton Christian Church, with Pastor Doug Ingmire presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday (May 25, 2017) at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Halstead City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children , American Cancer Society or Newton Christian Church, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
