Obituary: Jean Langenwalter Derstine
HESSTON - Jean Langenwalter Derstine, 78, passed away on Saturday (Sept. 24, 2011) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
She was born on Jan. 11, 1933, in Wichita, the daughter of Edwin and Marie Dester Langenwalter. She graduated from Hesston Academy in 1953 and La Junta Mennonite School of Nursing in 1956. After marriage, she was a homemaker.
Jean was married to Merrill Derstine. He survives.
She was a member of Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston.
She is survived by sons, Timothy (Rosita) of State College, Pa., and Benjamin of State College; daughters, Alonna (Eric) Smith of Philadelphia, Rebecca (Don) Esch of Newton, Deborah Zug of Harleysville, Pa., Regina (Arlie) Overton of Marion, and Sarah (Curt) Epp of McPherson; sister, Linda (Willard) Smith of Blountstown, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Bloom.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston. Chaplain Wendy Miller will officiate.
