James R. 'Jim' Lattimer
Obituary
James R. "Jim" Lattimer, 86, died on Sunday (July
3, 2011) at Halstead Health and Rehab in Halstead.
He was born on June 29, 1925, in Lyons, the son of W.E.
"Wally" and Viola Gould Lattimer. On Feb. 12, 1977, he married Debbie
Louise Cummins at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Newton. Debbie survives of
the home.
Jim was a Marine who served during World War II, serving in
the Pacific Theatre, including Iwo Jima. He retired from the Fleming Company in
Wichita. He was a lifetime farmer, and he enjoyed gardening and selling produce
from his home. He had a love for dancing and bowling, and he was known for his
wit. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; children, James
(Nichole) Lattimer of Manhattan, and Rebecca Lattimer of Lyons; grandchildren,
Amanda (Brian) Vogt of Newton, Haley Fox of Valley Center, Aaron Cooper of
Lyons, and Paige Lattimer of Manhattan; great-grandchildren, Noah and Isabella
Vogt of Newton; and sister, Marian Starks of Palm Bay, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie Fox; his
parents; brothers, Warren, Robert, Max and Hubert Lattimer; and sisters, Velma
Heiligman, Eulela Ulrich and Faye Dressel.
Family graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the
Lyons Municipal Cemetery in Lyons. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at St.
Matthew's Episcopal Church in Newton. The Reverends Mary Siegmund and Bob Layne
will officiate.
