Obituary
Alpharetta M. (Hazen) Smith, 88, passed away on Friday (June
17, 2011) in Bartlett, Texas.
She was born on March 3, 1923, in Haybro, Colo., to Roy and
Mary (Martin) Hazen. She was a former resident of Walton, Newton and Wichita.
She was married to John Martin Smith in 1940. They were
married for 31 years until his death in 1971.
Early in her life, she was an active participant in the
Salvation Army. She enjoyed fishing with John and gardening.
Survivors include daughters, Edith F. (Smith) Younce and spouse,
Robert, of Attica, and Betsy A. (Smith) Thompson and spouse, Howard, of Tulsa,
Okla.; 15 grandchildren, Janice Richardson, Judy Carr, Michael Willard, John
Willard, Jack Hammons, Brian Hammons, Deanna Decker, Paul Decker, Tanna
Thompson, Robin Janzen-Danglade, Rose Willard, Zondra Laird, Teresa (Smith)
McGonigal, Tammy Smith and Harold Laird; and numerous great- and
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughters,
Retta A. (Smith) McGrew, Martha J. (Smith) Amiot and Mary L. (Smith) Trett; and
son, John L. Smith.
