Mark Knopf
Obituary
Mark Knopf died suddenly on Saturday (July 30, 2011).
He was born on Oct. 10, 1953, in Davenport, Iowa, to Walter
and Mary Knopf. He moved to Newton when he was 2 years old.
He made many friends and enjoyed a career serving the city
with the street department, primarily as the street sweeper. He was proud of
his contribution to the beauty of his city.
After retiring, he moved to Millinocket, Maine, where he
made many more friends. He loved the beauty of the place and the warmth and
friendliness of the people there. He loved Alcoholics Anonymous and worked
tireless hours to support that organization.
He was a very talented drummer, and he loved music. He
played in various rock bands from his teen years until the end of his life. He
worked with young people to show them being in a band could be done without
drugs or alcohol, and he even starred in and produced a local television show
called "Band Building."
Mark is survived by his wife, Diana of Millinocket; his son,
Walter of Newton; his brother, Michael, and family, of Australia; and extended
family.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Millinocket Memorial Cemetery with a gathering to follow at St. Andrew's
Episcopal Church, 40 Highland Ave. in Millinocket.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to help
defray funeral costs. Donation envelopes will be available at the church or can
be sent to Lamson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 618, Millinocket, ME 04462. He was a
special, giving, caring man who will be greatly missed.
