Obituary
Esther Ruth Shalin, 97, died on Sunday (June 12, 2011) at
Life Care Center of Andover.
She was born on Nov. 19, 1913, in Belle Fountaine, Ohio, to
Thomas Cyril and Mabel (Ness) Price. Esther graduated from Stivers High School
in Dayton, Ohio, and she graduated from Saint Elizabeth Hospital School of
Nursing in Dayton in 1936 as a registered nurse.
She worked as a registered nurse in Dayton and Chicago. In
1939, she married Henry E. Shalin in Chicago, and he preceded her in death in
1999. Esther also resided in Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, Loma Linda, Calif.,
Newton and Topeka, Azle, Texas, and recently Andover.
Esther always was known for her caring and compassionate
heart and concern for others. She will be missed.
She is survived by a son, Tom Shalin and daughter-in-law, Sheila
of Wichita; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a cousin; and many
nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. July 5 at Hillcrest
Community Church in Newton.
