Obituary
Joy Leuna (Porter) Payne, 88, died on
Friday (June 9, 2017) at Christ Care Home Plus in Wichita.
Joy was born on April 21, 1929, to Carl
and Agnes (Davidson) Porter in Newton. She was one of 11 children.
Joy was a retired telephone operator
for Southwestern Bell. She was immaculate in all aspects of her life,
always dressed to perfection and enjoyed nice clothes and jewelry.
She was a classy and unique lady. She took impeccable care of her
home and possessions. Most importantly, she was a person of great
faith who deeply loved her grandchildren and family. Her kindness and
love touched and blessed the lives of those around her.
She is survived by her son and his
wife: Jason and Marcella Payne of Wichita; siblings: Wayne Porter,
Bernice Winskey and Esther Israel; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents: Carl and Agnes Porter; six sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10
a.m. Wednesday (June 14, 2017) at the First Baptist Church in Newton.
A public visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday (June
13, 2017) at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will be present to
greet friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. A graveside
committal service will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in
Newton. Pastor Chip Bungard will be the presiding pastor.
