Obituary
Betty J. Almond Mustoe, 80, of Newton,
died Wednesday (June 21, 2017) at the Via Christi Regional Medical
Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1936, in Edna,
the daughter of Robert E. and Wathena Bryant Tilton. Betty was raised
in the Altoona area, graduating from Chetopa High School. Shortly
after, she moved to Wichita.
Betty married Charles "Chuck"
Almond in 1955 in Altoona. They later moved to McPherson before
moving to Newton in 1964. Chuck died on Sept. 16, 1991.
She later married Vernon L. Mustoe on
June 3, 1994, in Newton. He died on Sept. 18, 2007.
After moving to Newton, Betty worked at
a local dry cleaning business. She later went to work at Full Vision
until starting at Dillons in 1982, where she continued until retiring
in 1996. Since late 2007, Betty was a receptionist at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home.
She was a longtime member of Trinity
Heights United Methodist Church where she was very active in numerous
committees. She was involved with the Respite Care program. Betty was
also a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Ladies Auxillaries
and B.P.W., where she held several offices. She also enjoyed her time
as a volunteer at the gift shop of the Newton Medical Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Vicki
Miller of Hutchinson; sister, Bonnie Hobbs and husband Dewey of Polo,
Missouri; grandchildren, Tina Pearce and husband Steven of
Fayetteville, North Carolina, Krista Buckman and husband Derick of
Hutchinson, Doni Perry and husband Chris of Wichita and Mark Boyer
and wife Jennifer of California; eight great-grandchildren; and
daughter-in-law, Susan Almond Garofalo of South Carolina.
Along with her husbands, Betty is
preceded in death by her parents; and son, Kevin Almond.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30
a.m. Monday (June 26, 2017) at the Trinity Heights United Methodist
Church in Newton.
Graveside services and interment will
be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Altoona Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home
between 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday (June 25, 2017), where the family will
receive friends between 4 and 6 p.m.
A memorial has been established with
Respite Care and the American Cancer Society; contributions may be
