CAROLYN STURGEON
1940 - 2017
Obituary
Carolyn Sue Sturgeon, 76, died Monday
(June 26, 2017) at Quaker Hill Manor in Baxter Springs. She was born
Oct. 6, 1940, in Galena to Harold and Zenobie (Cook) Boyes. On Sept.
23, 1961, she married Joe Sturgeon in Newton and he preceded her in
death on July 2, 1995.
Carolyn was a member of the St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Newton. She worked at the former Wilson Drug in
Newton where she brightened many people's Christmas with her gift
wrapping. Through the years, Carolyn also worked at Sears and was an
original employee of the Newton Wal-Mart, where she enjoyed greeting
customers, being a cashier and had a love of serving people in the
lawn and garden section. Carolyn also enjoyed spending time in her
own garden tending her many beautiful flowers and feeding the birds
that visited, especially cardinals.
She was an avid sports fan, especially
baseball, and could be found many afternoons following the Atlanta
Braves among the many other baseball franchises. Carolyn was always
in the stands supporting her son's college baseball team, and later
her grandkids as well.
Carolyn's greatest joy was being a
loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was
always quick with a smile and hug and looked forward to spending time
with those she loved.
Carolyn is survived by her sons: Todd
and Cim Sturgeon and Michael and Andrea Sturgeon, both of Newton;
daughter, Crystal Sturgeon of Hesston; brother, Danny Boyes and
Cheryl of Wichita; and sister-in-law, Judy Boyes of Newton. She is
also survived by her grandchildren: Kylie (John) Sommers, Cole
Sturgeon, Drake Sturgeon, Giovanni Ruiz, Taitiana Ruiz, Thalia Ruiz
and Jayden Ruiz; and her close friend, Rod "Red" Johnson of
Baxter Springs.
She is preceded in death by her
parents; husband; and brother, Gary Boyes.
