Obituary
Sanford Headings, 73, died on Tuesday (June 28, 2011) at
Hospice House in Hutchinson.
He was born on April 12, 1938, the son of Levi and Mary
Miller Headings. He graduated from Central Christian High School in 1956,
Hesston College in 1958, and in 1961 he received his bachelor's in music
education from Goshen College in Goshen, Ind.
Sanford taught music at Central Christian High School and
then Partridge High School and Grade School. He later started his own business,
Comfort Insulation, and also did home repair.
He was a lifelong member of Yoder Mennonite Church and was
attending Bethany Church of the Nazarene, where he was a music minister. Church
music was his focus and joy. He also had been a member of the Reno County
Choral Society.
On Aug. 12, 1960, he married Delores Ann Stutzman in
Hesston. She survives. Other survivors include four children: son, Jeffrey Lee
Headings and wife, Cindy, of Hutchinson; three daughters, Charlene Renee Cooper
and husband, Chris, of Hutchinson, Kristeen LaRae Zehr and husband, Joel, of
Newton, and Lynita Kaye Headings of Hutchinson; three brothers, Keith Headings
of Haysville, Robert Headings of Ponca City, Okla., and Phillip Headings of
South Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Jalayn Zehr, Andrew Zehr, Zac Headings,
Katelin Zehr, Nick Headings, Adam Cooper and Ben Cooper, along with many aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lois
Burrell.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with family
to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary Chapel.
Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Yoder Cemetery
in Yoder. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Bethany Church of the
Nazarene, 408 Kent Road in Hutchinson. The Rev. Darrell Bisel will preside.
