Obituary

Shirley Arlene (Rosenberger) Coombs, 89, of Halstead passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 15, 1927, to Edward and Grace Rosenberger at home in Bentley. She was the second of three children which included her older sister Anna Lee and younger brother Verle.

Following graduation from Bentley High School in 1945 she started work at Russ Prater Real Estate Company in Wichita and then moved to the Fourth National Bank in Wichita. She married Q. Van Moser in 1947. In 1952, Quentin Van Moser II was born followed by Alan Edward Moser in 1955. In 1964, she married Robert W. Coombs. In 1965, they had a son; Christopher Ragan Coombs. As her sons got older she went to college completing an accounting degree in 1976. She started working for the Hertzler Research Foundation upon graduation. She retired from the foundation after 11 years. She kept busy in retirement with volunteer work with the Halstead Library and the local health clinic. She was active in Helianthus, Bridge club, and the Red Hat Society, as well as being active in charitable work through the United Methodist Church of Halstead and the Halstead Senior Citizen Center.

She is survived by her older sister Anna Lee Armour; her three sons, Quentin (Tresa) Moser, Alan Moser, and Chris (Elisabeth) Coombs; her granddaughter DeVee Moser, step-grandchildren Matt (Danel) Cupps, Ryan Cupps, and step-great grandchildren Carter Cupps and Wesley Cupps.  She is proceeded in death by her parents Edward and Grace Rosenberger; her younger brother Verle Rosenberger; and her husband of 36 years Robert W. Coombs.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, Halstead, with Pastor Donna Voteau officiating. Inurnment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bentley. Memorials may be given to Halstead Public Library or the Church in care of Kaufman Funeral Home.
