Obituary

Emiko "Granny" Ester, 86, retired Wesley Medical Center Coffee Shop cashier, died on Tuesday (Sept. 6, 2011) at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation in Halstead.

She was born on July 1, 1925, at Saitama-ken, Japan, to Yoji and Kotuji Katayama.

Formerly of Wichita, she had been a Halstead resident since 1996. On Nov. 1, 1964, she married Glenn Ernest Ester in Wichita. He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1990.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie (Todd) Calvin of Halstead; and two grandsons, Justin Calvin of Manhattan and Travis Calvin of Halstead.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Tadatoshi and Yoshikatu Katayama.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Halstead. Father Stephen Baxter will officiate.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita.
