Obituary
Eva Lena Suderman, 80, died on Wednesday (Sept. 7, 2011) at
Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1930, in Meno, Okla., to Eva
(Koehn) and Joseph Eck.
Eva Lena married Alvin H. Suderman on Sept. 28, 1951, at
First Mennonite Church of Newton. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1997.
Moving to the Newton area in 1947, Eva Lena spent the
majority of her lifetime in the Newton area. She was a 1949 graduate of Newton
High School.
Eva Lena was a former member of the First Mennonite Church
of Newton, where she was active in the church and taught children's Sunday
school class for many years. Most recently, she joined Koerner Heights Church
of the Mennonite Brethren in Newton.
Being a homemaker and raising her four children, Eva Lena
supported her husband with all of his commitments. She was actively engaged in
the farm and always had a flourishing garden. Her hobbies included quilting and
baking. She quilted each of the grandchildren special baby quilts and quilts
for weddings. Her baking of homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, pies and peppernuts
will definitely be missed. Eva Lena was active in EHU and also was a member of
the Century Club of Blood Donors.
A devoted, caring and loving mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and sister will be missed. She loved her family endlessly.
Survivors include three sons, Arlan Suderman (Angie) of
Wichita, Don Suderman (Marcee) of Newton and Darrel Suderman (Laurel) of
Highlands Ranch, Colo.; daughter, Carol (Samuel) Amstutz of Wichita; brother,
Paul Lee Eck of Elk City; two sisters, Marie Matz of Kechi and Malinda Guhr of
Newton; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her spouse, Alvin;
sisters, Bertha, Frieda, Margaret, Lillian and Obera; and a brother, Detrick.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Schowalter
Villa in Hesston.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Schowalter
Villa. Pastor Brent Vansickle and the Rev. Wendy Miller will preside.
