Irma Della Schwartz died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at her home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 12 days.
She was born on December 28, 1919 near Amorita, Oklahoma, the daughter of David and Mable Osborn Angle. Irma grew up and attended school in Newton before graduating from Newton High School in 1938. On June 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Schwartz in Wichita. Three children were born to this union. They were privileged to spend nearly 48 years of marriage together until Kenneth's death in June of 1987.
They moved to Glasco in August of 1939, where she operated Schwartz LP Gas Service during WWII. They owned and operated the Speed Wash Laundromat for 20 years. In 1957, Irma and Kenneth built the Turquoise Roller Rink, and then in 1960, they opened the Spinning Wheel Antique Shop. Irma was a member of the Glasco Christian Church, the Christian Women's Group, the Senior Citizens Center, the Flint Hills Day Lilly Society, and was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Irma is survived by one son, Ralph and his wife Laura of Arvada, Colorado; two daughters, Diane Vernon and her husband Kenneth of Newton, and Elaine Merrill and her husband Larry of Glasco; two brothers, Paul Angle of California, and Kenny Angle and his wife Joanie of Wichita; three sisters, Helen Aldridge and her husband Raymond of Lamont, Oklahoma, Norma Ormandy, and Lois Swanson and her husband Don, all of Phoenix; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband Kenneth, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gene and Dale Angle; and two sisters, Thelma Martin and Evelyn Budde.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the Glasco Christian Church with burial in the Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Church or Solomon Valley Hospice. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Dean Funeral Home in Glasco. The casket will remain closed.
