Obituary
Wesley D. Schmidt, 80, died Sunday
(July 16, 2017) at Newton Medical Center. He was born Aug. 6, 1936,
in Medford, Oklahoma, to Albert and Erna (Fleming) Schmidt. He
married Betty Johnson on June 1, 1957, at Greensburg and she survives
of the home.
Wesley was a member of the First Church
of God in Newton and retired from AGCO in Hesston after nearly 35
years. He was also a familiar face around Newton Medical Center,
where he worked nearly 16 years in maintenance, as a courier and
anywhere he was needed. Wesley also worked at Sunset School as a
crossing guard for nearly 16 years, where he made many friends.
He enjoyed collecting pens and pencils
from all over the country. Wesley was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and friend to many. He was always quick with his warm,
genuine smile and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of
Newton; daughters, Cynthia (Robert) Miller of Newton and Kimberly
(Kevin) Moon of Goessel; sons, Ronald Schmidt and Darrell (Joey)
Schmidt, both of Newton, and Michael Schmidt of Lucas, Iowa; and
brothers, Allen Schmidt of Hesston and Ernest Schmidt of Delia. He is
also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Wesley is preceded in death by his
parents; brother, Harold Schmidt; and infant daughter, Patricia
Schmidt.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday
(July 21, 2017) at First Church of God in Newton, with Pastor Clint
McBroom presiding. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday (July 20,
2017) at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends
from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood
Cemetery, Newton.

Funeral Home.
