Carol L. Helmer
Obituary
Carol L. Helmer, 86, died on Saturday (Oct. 1, 2011) at
Asbury Park Healthcare in Newton.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1925, in Marion County to John and
Eva (Ray) Adams. On June 23, 1949, she married George Helmer in Marion, and he
preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2005.
Carol was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in
Newton. She was a former Sunday school teacher at the church. She retired as a
secretary for the city of Newton Engineering Department.
Carol enjoyed gardening and walking and was an avid reader.
She greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many
friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Stucky of Wichita,
Brenda and Mark Buller of Newton and Barbara and Jerry Bessel of Assaria;
sister, Dorothy Conyers of Marion; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband; parents;
daughter, Georgia Vogel; one grandson; brother, Jack Adams; and sister, Verla
Giesbrecht.
A celebration of Carol's life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday
at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. Pastor Nancy Crowel will preside. A
private family burial will take place in Marion City Cemetery.
Memorials may be left with Good Shepherd Hospice, in care of
Petersen Funeral Home of Newton.
