Clara E. Dillon
Obituary
Clara E. Dillon, formerly of Newton, died on Tuesday (Oct.
11, 2011) at Homestead of Topeka at the age of 96.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1914, in Blackburn, Okla., to C.N.
and Susie E. Kendrick Ogan and was one of eight children.
Clara graduated from Nelagony, Okla., high school in 1931
and moved to Tulsa, Okla., where she met and married Wilburn Dillon on Dec. 24,
1936. She was active in her husband's businesses and in raising a family,
living in Oklahoma until moving to Newton in 1954.
After the death of her husband in 1981, she moved to South
Padre Island, Texas, and remained there until 1999, when she moved to Houston.
In 2005, she moved to Topeka to be closer to her family. She spent the last
several years at Thornton Place and Topeka Homestead.
She is survived by her two sons, Wilburn (Evelyn) Dillon Jr.
of Topeka and Martin (Patricia) Dillon of Bullard, Texas. She also is survived
by four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;
a sister, "Kee" Hight of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a brother, Joseph L.
Ogan of Los Gatos, Calif.
Clara was cremated, and her remains will be inurned in
Newton alongside her husband at Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of life will
be from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at Charlies's Family Restaurant, 200 Manchester
Lane in Newton (exit 31 off of Interstate 135).
