Harold D. Converse
Obituary
Harold D. Converse, Ed.D, 87, died on Tuesday (Oct. 11,
2011) surrounded by his loving family at the Newton Presbyterian Manor in
Newton.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1924, in Mutual, Okla., to Herschel
and Orpha (Bish) Converse.
Harold was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newton.
He was head of the psychology department for Fort Hays State University and
served as president of the Kansas Psychological Association. He served on the
board of directors for the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation. Harold retired
as a neuropsychologist, serving more than 2,000 children and adults in
south-central Kansas.
He enjoyed writing poetry, music and children's books.
Harold greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many
friends.
Harold is survived by a son, Wayne and his wife, Robin
Converse of Derby, and a daughter, Paula and her husband, Erich Silbermayr of
Kolsass, Tirol, Austria. He also is survived by six grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three wives,
Mildred Converse, Norma Pauline Converse and Anne Royston Converse.
A celebration of Harold's life will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at
First Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Columbus in Newton. A private family burial
will take place at a future time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to First
Presbyterian Church at 900 N. Columbus in Newton, or Presbyterian Manor at 1200
E. Seventh or Prairie View, in care of Petersen Funeral Home at 215 N. Main
St., Newton, KS 67114.
As a reflection of his life, memorials to Harold D. Converse
will be utilized to serve the needs of children and seniors.
