Loyd Eugene Dighero

Loyd Eugene Dighero, 87, passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 18, 2011) at the Galacia Heart Hospital in Wichita.

Loyd was born on Aug. 13, 1924, in Liberal, Mo., to Mable Clare (Spurling) and John Dominic Dighero. He was the fifth child of seven.

Loyd was a small businessman in Fort Scott, having owned two service stations, before becoming a member of Fort Scott Fire Department. He also was employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Company.

Loyd was a member of the Lions Club; Masonic Lodge in Fort Scott; Fort Scott Scottish Rite; and Mirza Shrine Temple in Pittsburgh. Loyd also made his home in Newton, where he spent many years and was employed by the Newton School District.

He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Loyd's love of life and people brought much joy to those who had the pleasure of knowing him, whether it was his business associates, hunting buddies, or just watching football with family and friends. He loved it all.

Loyd is survived by his brother, George Dighero of Lamar, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Luzier (Bill) of Newton; two grandchildren, Butch Luzier (Tina) of Hesston, Sarah Monaghen (Sean) of Newton; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Johnie, Dean and Herb Dighero; two sisters, Mary Morrow and Margie Metcalf; his first wife of 50 years, Blanche I. Jennings Dighero on Feb. 19, 1993; and second wife, Aileen E. Jordan Butler Dighero on Aug. 24, 2007.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to service time.

Graveside services and interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been made in his name to the Transportation Fund of Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
