Dorsey Dean Grice
Obituary
Dorsey Dean Grice, 74, died on Friday (Oct. 21, 2011) at
Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
He was formerly of Newton, where he taught at Bethel
College. He was professor emeritus, department of psychology at Western
Kentucky University and former cattle rancher and broadcast engineer/announcer.
In retirement, he continued to be an avid horseman, poet and writer.
Born on Aug. 21, 1937, in Lamar, Colo., he graduated from
Pueblo College, Wichita State University, and received his Ph.D. from the
University of Nebraska.
In addition to his 30 years at WKU, he taught psychology at
Tabor and Bethel Colleges and worked for Prairie View Mental Health Center in
Kansas. He also was a former Hospice volunteer.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Wurth-Grice; his son,
Warren Grice of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; his daughters, Carol Grice-Stanley of
Danville, Ill., and Cyndi Brown of Dumfries, Va.; their mother, Linda Grice of
Bowling Green; and stepsons, Jonathon and Andrew Wurth of Bowling Green, Ky.,
and Alex Wurth of Phoenix, Ariz. He also is survived by five grandchildren,
Jacob and Adam Grice, Christopher and Anna Stanley, and Miriam Brown, and a
brother, Keith Grice of Ulysses.
He was preceded in death by his brother, J.B. Grice of
Lamar, Colo.
Memorial services were Wednesday at the Chandler Memorial
Chapel on WKU's campus with a gathering of friends and family following at the
Faculty House.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Creative
Writing Scholarship Fund, Department of English, WKU.
