Obituary
Melvin Leland Franzen, 85, passed away
on Saturday (Feb. 19, 2011) at his home.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1925, at the
Franzen home place just north of Goessel and was the third child born
to John and Kornelia (Klassen) Franzen.
He was a farmer and, since 1974, the
owner/operator of Franzen Repair. He was a member of Tabor Mennonite
Church in rural Goessel.
On March 25, 1950, he married Mildred
Jean Schmidt at Tabor Mennonite Church.
Survivors are Mildred, his wife of 61
years; two daughters, LaVerle Franzen of Newton, and Teresa and Loyd
Kennedy of Ceder Vale; one son, Doyle and Nancy Franzen of rural
Newton; six grandchildren, Heather, Bethany, Andrew and Alex Kennedy,
and Jeff and Lane Franzen. Other survivors include one brother,
Eugene Franzen of rural Canton, and one sister, Marjorie Janzen of
North Newton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Goessel, with the family
present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m.
Thursday at Tabor Mennonite Church Cemetery with a memorial service
to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Tabor Mennonite Church. Pastor Corey
Miller will officiate.
