Dan A. Suderman Jr.
Obituary
Dan A. Suderman Jr., 63, passed away on
March 12, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family after a
five-year battle with cancer.
He was born on May 3, 1947, in Newton
to Art and Doris Suderman. He graduated from Newton High School in
1965. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1969.
He served in the U.S. Army and received
a Medal of Merit for the time he served in Vietnam and was honorably
discharged as a Specialist 5. He built his career working for the
Harvey County Special Education Co-op., retiring in 2004.
Dan spent much of his life doing
remodeling projects for friends and family. He was always a doer and
a helper. Anytime there was a project or he saw someone in need, he
was right there willing to step in to help.
These are the attributes that led him
to his love for the Fox Theatre in Newton. His vision allowed him to
see the potential in the Fox that few others could recognize.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed
spending time with friends. Whether it was in a boat or by the RV in
Omaha at the College World Series, he cherished the time he spent
with them.
Above all was his undying love for his
family. His final act of giving was to be an organ donor. His desire
for giving to others made him the man we will all love and miss.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years,
LeAnn of the home; daughters, Stefanie and her husband, Sam Zimmerman
of Newton, and Sarah and her husband, Matt Davis and granddaughter,
Delaney of Manhattan; and sister, Jeanne and her husband, Bud
Boudreau of Prairie Village, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his
parents and older brother, Johnny.
There will be a Celebration of Life at
2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fox Theatre in Newton, 520 N. Main St.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to the Newton Fox Theatre or Victory in the Valley Cancer
Support Group of Newton, in care of Petersen's Funeral Home.
