Marvin E. Schmidt
Obituary
Marvin E. Schmidt, 78, died on Tuesday (Nov. 29, 2011) at
Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born on May 12, 1933, in Goessel to
Adolf and Elizabeth (Funk) Schmidt. He served his country in the U.S. Army from
1953 to 1955. He also worked on a custom harvesting crew from 1959 to 1962.
Marvin worked at Hesston Corp. and retired from the Marion County Road Department.
He also enjoyed farming and working with mules and donkeys. He used his mules
and donkeys to pull wagons in local parades. Marvin enjoyed spending time on
his farm near Peabody and his many collections.
He is survived by his son, Kevin and Toni Schmidt of Lee's
Summit, Mo.; daughters, Karla Hilton of Lee's Summit, and Kelsey and Steven
Dirks of Rogers, Ark.; a brother, Bob and Glendene Schmidt of North Newton; and
four sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" and Laurence Bartel of Hesston,
LaWanda and Emerson Wiens of North Newton, Dorothy and Lewis Schmidt of
Hutchinson and Lola and Jim Suderman of Colorado Springs, Colo. Marvin also has
four grandchildren, Devan and Adam Schmidt, and Caden and Kylie Dirks.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Joyce Schmidt.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton.
A graveside committal service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at
Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton.
Memorials have been established with the Hillsboro Veterans
of Foreign Wars, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
