Isaac Samuel "Sam' Bailey
Isaac Samuel "Sam" Bailey 85, died Tuesday (Nov.
23, 2010) surrounded by his loving family at his daughter's Newton residence.
He was born March 16, 1925, in Thayer to James Albert and
Rosa Anna Shervington Bailey.
On Nov. 27, 1947, he married Betty Jane Daugherty in Newton.
She preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 1999.
Sam was a member of the First Church of God in Newton, where
he served as church treasurer for more than 20 years and was active in building
the church and the family life center.
He served his country in the Navy during WWII in both Europe
and Asia.
Sam was retired from the city of Newton after 44 years.
He was assistant fire chief for 17 years and retired as fire
chief after two years of service to the community.
Sam was a life member of the Fireman's Association. He
enjoyed gardening, making jewelry and wood crafts. He also enjoyed fishing and
hunting and making his own fishing lures. He also enjoyed rock collecting.
Family was very important to Sam, and he greatly enjoyed
spending time with his loving family and many friends.
Sam is survived by his daughters, Linda and her husband Rex
Hahn of Shallowwater, Texas, Nancy and her husband David Mitzel of Newton; son,
Glen and his wife Christy Bailey of Wichita; brother, Nathan Bailey Ramona;
sisters, Mae Thomas of Lakewood, Colo.; Alice Zentz of Grand Junction, Colo.;
seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter,
Theresa Roxanna Dossett; granddaughter, Caroline Dossett; brother, Russell
Bailey; and sister, Lea Beatrice Brittain.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral
Home Chapel with Pastor David Reimer of Grace Community Church in Newton
presiding.
