Obituary
Richard A. "Fitz" Fitzwilliam, 85, died Monday
(Nov. 1, 2010) at the Robert J. Dole Veterans Hospital in Wichita.
He was born on March 24, 1925, in Wellington to Clarence M.
and Florence J. (Baker) Fitzwilliam.
On Dec. 21, 1947, he married Helen Carter in Wichita, and
she preceded him in death on April 4, 1988.
On Nov. 12, 1988, he married Patricia L. Blair in Wichita,
and she survives of the home.
He was a graduate of the former University of Wichita. Dick
served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, earning the rank of
sergeant. He was presented with Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals, among
other awards.
He was an owner/operator of a Volkswagen dealership in
Sedalia, Mo., and also worked for Tempel Callsion Construction Co. in Sedalia
as a construction field superintendent.
Dick was very involved in his community, serving as
president of the Sedalia Country Club, vice president of the Sedalia Chamber of
Commerce, serving on the Industrial Development Board of Sedalia and on the
Sedalia Airport Board during the construction of a new terminal building.
He was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church in
Sedalia.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Rick Fitzwilliam
of Sedalia; daughter, Anne Semon of Kansas City, Mo.; stepdaughters, Jennifer
Murati of Andover and Stephanie Ridder of Tracy, Calif.; sister, Florence
(Corky) Brow of Las Vegas; one grandson; nine step-grandchildren; five
step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Helen
Carter Fitzwilliam; one brother, James P. Fitzwilliam; and one sister, Alice
Casidy.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Petersen
Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with the Rev. Dee Dee Evans of St. James Episcopal
Church in Wichita presiding.
Graveside service with military honors will be provided by
the soldiers of Fort Riley in Junction City.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and can be made in care of Petersen Funeral
Home.
