William M. 'Bill' Libhart

WICHITA -- William M. "Bill" Libhart, 84, retired manager of Eastgate Lanes in Newton, died Tuesday (July 29, 2003) at HealthCare in Wichita.

He was born July 16, 1919, to William M. and Maggie B. (Alfrey) Libhart of Newton. They preceded him in death. He married Mary Ruth Brown March 1, 1941, in Newton. She survives of Wichita.

He graduated from Newton High School in 1937. He was a baseball umpire and an avid bowler. He served as a master sergeant in World War II in the North Apennines, Rome and Po Valley. He received the EAME service medal with three bronze stars, the American theater ribbon and the Good Conduct medal. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bowling Proprietors Association of America, American Bowling Congress and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.

Other survivors include: a son, Martin Libhart and wife Toni of Wichita; two grandchildren, Stephanie Libhart and Jennifer Molen and husband Chad, all of Wichita; and a great-grandchild, Hannah Joy Molen of Wichita.

He also was preceded in death by: five sisters, Mary Hayes, Gladys Koeneman, Ethel Burkhart, Nina Kochenour and Vivian Libhart.

Visitation will be from 9 a. m. tp 9 p. m. Friday Petersen Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a. m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Jonathan Wenger officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Sunflower chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and East Evangelical Church of Wichita, both in care of the funeral home.
