NEWTON - Melvin T. Higgs, 100, died Aug. 2, 2010. He was born Oct. 25, 1909, to Effie Parish and Allie Higgs.

On Oct. 25, 1934, he married Helen Gertrude Cunningham. She died Dec. 3, 2007. Survivors include: a son, John; a daughter, Marilyn Cadle; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Betty Higgs; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Visitation 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. The committal will be a private family service. Memorials to Presbyterian Manor or American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
