Marlin H Krehbiel
LAKIN -- Marlin H. Krehbiel, 79, died Thursday (Feb 14, 2002) at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Halstead to David and Elise [should be Elsie](Schroeder) Krehbiel.
He moved with his family to Deer Creek, Okla., when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Deer Creek High School and received his bachelor of science degree from Bethel College in North Newton on 1948. He began teaching in Lakin in the fall of 1949.
He married Velora Schmidt July 20, 1950, in Goessel. She survives.
He later earned a master's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He worked for 39 years at Lakin High School, teaching mathematics and coaching, in addition to serving one year as principal and several as assistant principal. He was inducted into the Kansas State Teachers Hall of Fame.
He was involved in the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin, serving as elder, a Sunday school teacher and choir member.
Other survivors include: a son, Dean Krehbiel of Lakin; two daughters, Sharon and John Ingram of Wichita and Nancy Kessler of Lakin; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elton Krehbiel; and two sisters, Ruth Schmidt and Velma Jean Balzer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Lakin with the Rev. Linda Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery in Lakin.
Memorials have been established with the Marlin Krehbiel Scholarship Fund in care of Garnard Funeral Home in Lakin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnard Funeral Home in Lakin.
