Paul L. Kliewer
Paul L. Kliewer, 82, of Kansas Christian Home, vice president of First Securities Co. of Wichita, died Saturday (May 10, 1991) at Newton Medical Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Sheldon officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 2, 1909, in Berne, Ind., to Dr. J.W. and Emma Ruth Kliewer. He married Maurine F. Fugate July 21, 1935, in Newton. She died in 1989.
He was member of the church, the American Legion, VFW, Harvey County Historical Society, Elks and Kiwanis Clubs.
He was a former employee of Bethel Clinic and Newton Appliance Co. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1949 to 1952. He was local president and state vice president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a board member of that organization. He also headed the Harvey County chapter of the American Red cross in 1948.
Survivors include a son, John of Wichita; a daughter, Jane Munsell of Canyon, Texas; a brother, Karl G. Kliewer of North Newton, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Petersen's Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to KCH or the church.
