Obituary
Darrell L. Penner, 72, died Saturday (July 10, 2010) at his
Newton residence.
He was born on Sept. 4, 1937, in Hillsboro to Herman and
Dorothy (Harms) Penner.
On Aug. 21, 1964, he married Glenda Abney.
On Oct. 19, 1991, he married Ruth Meredith in Garden City,
and she survives of the home.
Darrell was a retired feeder driver for the United Parcel
Service.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean
War. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion posts, both in Newton.
He also was a member of the NRA and enjoyed fishing.
Darrell loved to listen to old country music.
His family was very important to him, and he greatly looked
forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. (Herdt) Penner of
Newton; stepson, Scott and Jennifer Meredith of Newton; daughter, Liz and Colin
McGuire of Wichita; brother, Ralph Penner of Newton; granddaughters, Ariel
Meredith of Newton, Francie Penner of Wichita, and Abbie Wenger of Wichita;
grandsons, Levi Meredith of Newton, Tyler McGuire of Wichita, and Trammer
McGuire of Wichita; and his former wife Glenda Kliener of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Dorothy
(Harms) Penner; and a brother, Ronald Penner.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m., with the family
receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral
Home with Jeffrey Hurst presiding.
Burial will be at Johanestahl Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.
Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Hospice in care of
Petersen Funeral Home.
