Haury, Private Irvin

Obituary

Private Irvin Haury, son of Professor and Mrs. G. A. Haury, was born at Halstead, Kansas, on July 23, 1892. He received his education in the public schools of Newton and at Bethel College, from which institution he was graduated in 1916. The following year he took a postgraduate course in the Kansas University, where he received his master's degree. In the summer of 1917 he spent some weeks at Camp Funston teaching French. On May 27, 1918, he was inducted into the army at Camp Funston and was assigned to the medical corps. After a short time he was sent to the receiving station, where he took finger prints of recruits as they came in.he remained at this work until the time of his death. On the evening of September 27 he suffered an attack of cerebral spinal meningitis, brought on perhaps by a slight attack of influenza, and on the following day, shortly before noon, he passed away. His body was brought home and on October 2, 1918, was laid to rest in the Newton cemetery. Besides his parents and family, their remain a young wife, formerly Miss Cora Molzen, and a baby daughter.
