Obituary
Richard (Dick) Lee Holmes 83, died
Saturday (Sept. 2, 2017) at his Newton residence. He was born
December 17, 1933, in Ashland to Chancey Cecil and Melba Lucy
(Schulty) Holmes. Dick was a 1952 graduate of Meade High School. On
December 29, 1957, he married Wilma J. Blehm at Meade and she
preceded him death on September 10, 2013.
Dick was a longtime active member of
the Zion Lutheran Church in Newton where he joined in 1971. He was an
auto mechanic retiring after 40 years, working eight of those years
as a service manager in Meade, Hutchinson, Pratt and Newton. Dick
also was a representative for the Lutheran Brotherhood for nearly six
years. In 1995 he retired from full-time employment and worked part
time for Dillon's as a delivery driver, retiring again in 2009.
Dick was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and friend to many. He looked forward to spending time
with those he loved and enjoyed making friends on the campus of
Kansas Christian Home. He will be missed for his quick smile and
gentle teasing he freely gave.
Dick is survived by three daughters:
Diana Bellin of Medford, Oklahoma; Carol Hammer and her husband Tim
of Pittsford, New York, and Nancy Johnson and her husband Todd of
Mulvane; he is also survived by four grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Dick is preceded in death by his
parents, wife and one brother, Jack Holmes.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday
(Sept. 8, 2017) at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Aaron Filipek
presiding. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen
Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the
funeral home. Graveside committal with military honors will be 11
a.m. Saturday (Sept. 9, 2017) at Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are
suggested to the American Cancer Society or American Heart
Associationin care of Petersen Funeral Home.
