Eugene Victor Powell
Obituary
Victor Powell, 90, died Thursday (July 8, 2010) in Memphis,
Tenn., where he had been residing with his son-in-law, Bishop R. James Padgett
I, and daughter, Victoria.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1920, the son of Dewey and Lucille
Powell.
Victor was the attentive husband of Lois Irene (Brown) Powell
for almost 62 years. They were married on Jan. 16, 1948, in Newton.
He worked for Santa Fe Railroad as a chair car attendant
from 1958 to 1974. He then began working as a C.C.A. for Amtrak and retired in
1985.
Victor was added as a member of Second Baptist Missionary
Baptist Church under the watchful care of Bishop Willis Hockett. Prior to his
stay in Memphis four months ago, he was under the pastoral care of Bishop
Darryl Fox. While in Memphis, he was spiritually guided by Apostle John L.
Ragland III, of Christian Fellowship Sanctuary of Miraculous Praise.
He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Boyd of Kansas
City, Mo., and Victoria (James) Padgett; a sister-in-law, Wanda Jackson of
Lithonia, Ga.; four grandchildren, Robert James Padgett II, Vania Irene
Padgett, Verita Ilene Padgett and Vincent Andre' Padgett, all of Memphis; a
nephew, Greg Wade of Maywood, Ill.; a niece, Mary Katherine Brown of Lithonia;
and a host of great- and great-great nephews and great-great nieces.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and
Lucille Powell; and wife, Lois Irene (Brown) Powell.
Visitation was Tuesday at Petersen Family Funeral Home in
Newton.
Services were at 10 a.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home
Chapel.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
