Larry Dean Schmidt, 60, died on Thursday (July 15, 2010) at
Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
He was born on March 23, 1950, in Goessel, to Willard and
Velma (Friesen) Schmidt.
On July 27, 1971, he married Renate Schindelar in
Switzerland.
Larry was a member of Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.
He served two years with the U.S. Army.
His hobbies were fishing, hunting and woodworking. Larry
also enjoyed working with and collecting model cars.
His survivors include his wife, Renate of Newton; son, Danny
R. Schmidt of Newton; daughter, Jeannie A. Schmidt of Newton; sister, Janice V.
Kessler of Newton; grandchildren, Ian B. Schmidt and Dustin D. Todd, both of
Newton.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma; maternal and
paternal grandparents; brother, Eugene W. Schmidt; two sisters, Darlene L.
Griffen and Donna S. Schmidt; two nieces, April and Elisa Schmidt; and a
nephew, Michael Schmidt.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family
greeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton. The Rev. Gordon Smith will be presiding.
