Obituary
Robert M. "Uncle Bob" Hernandez, 83, died Saturday
(June 26, 2010) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
He was born on June 17, 1927, to Pedro and Maria (Regalado)
Hernandez in Newton.
On June 17, 1950, he married Consuelo Armendariz in Halstead
and she preceded him in death in 1996.
Robert married Maria Torres on Sept. 24, 1999, and she
survives of the home.
Robert served his country in the U. S. Army during World War
II.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in
Newton. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus and the American Legion
Post No. 2, both in Newton.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his loving family and many
friends. He also had a love of animals, especially the many dogs he had through
the years.
He is survived by his wife, Maria (Torres) Hernandez of
Newton; stepson, Dr. Mario Dennis of Richmond, Va.; stepdaughter, Xochitl Grant
of Minneapolis, Minn.; brothers, Rudolph Hernandez of Wichita and Russel
Hernandez of Newton; sister, Teresa Alvarado of Kansas City, Mo.; many nieces
and nephews; and his loving dog, Tiger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Hernandez and
Maria (Regalado) Hernandez; and sisters, Felicia Hernandez, Ceclia
"Sally" Hernandez, and Elmira Pedrosa.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 6 p.m. today at Our
Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following
the Rosary service at the church.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church, with the Rev. Juan Garza presiding.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials may be given to Hospice Care of Kansas, Caring
Hands Humane Society or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in care of
Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
