Obituary
Jennie Rodriguez, 92, of Newton, died Wednesday (May 5,
2010) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
She was born in El Paso, Texas, on Feb. 21, 1918, the
daughter of Gregorio and Emeteria Nunez Saenz. When she was a child, the family
moved to Aulne.
Jennie married Mike Cabrera Rodriguez on Sept. 2, 1935, in
Florence. They lived in the Marion and Florence areas until moving to Newton in
the early 1970s. He died on July 12, 1997.
She worked in the housekeeping department of Presbyterian
Manor in Newton for 11 years. After leaving the Manor in 1979, Jennie worked at
Lupe's Carry Out.
Jennie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she
was active in the Altar Society and enjoyed cooking Mexican food along with Joe
Sturgeon at the church. She loved to cook, crochet for family and make clothes
for her kids.
Survivors include her son, William Rodriguez and his wife
Barbara of Hutchinson; two daughters, Carol Borrego and her husband Sam of
Wichita, and Rita Sanseda of Newton; 11 grandchildren, Mike and Margo Hahn,
Kathy and Don Wilkens, Patty and Bill Bennett, Karen Hahn, Steve and Susan
Rodriguez, Robert and Anita Rodriguez, Tom and Chris Borrego, Stephanie and Ron
Rosales, Kathy and Earnest "Tony" Johns, Annette and Rik Paronto,
Phillip and Jessica Sanseda; 22 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter
Mary Ann Hahn; brother Carlos Saenz; two sisters, Dionica Delgadillo and Marian
Llamas; and one great-grandchild.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Sunday. The
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, both at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Newton. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday at
Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5
p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
