Mary L. McCullum
Obituary
Mary L. McCullum, 94, died on Monday (May 10, 2010) at the
Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
She was born on Dec. 17, 1915, in Coffeyville to Floyd and
Mary Ann (Riggins) Wright.
On March 15, 1940, she married Richard A. McCullum in St.
Louis, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 2000.
Mary was a 1933 graduate of Coffeyville High School and a
1938 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse for the Larned State Hospital
from 1964 to 1981.
Mary lived in Great Bend for 50 years prior to her move to
Newton in 1993.
She was an active member of First Christian Church in Great
Bend and Newton, and Kansas Christian Home Auxiliary. She also was an active
lifetime member of the American Nurse's Association and the R.N. Club of Great
Bend.
Mary enjoyed tending her flower beds and cooking.
She and her husband spent a lifetime in service to others.
Family was very important to Mary, and she looked forward to spending time with
her loving family and many friends.
She is survived by her sons, Richard and Linda McCullum of
Hutchinson, and Robert D. McCullum of Great Bend; daughters Marie and Roy
Krehbiel of Wichita, and the Rev. Margaret McCullum of Topeka; brother Donald
and Katie Wright of Topeka; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Bob,
Charles, David, Jim, John and Elbert Wright; and sisters Nettie Wright and
Lucille Terrill.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen
Funeral Home in Newton.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kansas
Christian Home Chapel, with Chaplains Denny Bell and Peter Hartman, and the
Rev. Bill Johnson presiding.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the
Great Bend Cemetery. The casket will be open 15 minutes prior to the service.
The Rev. Bill Johnson of First Christian Church of Great Bend will officiate.
