He greatly enjoyed his time at Wal-Mart and looked forward to going to work. He served his country in the National Guard from 1952 to 1961, earning an honorable discharge.

Dick enjoyed growing up in Beloit and spending time with his brothers fishing in the Solomon River. In his adult years, he looked forward to trips to Nebraska to see his brother Bob. Dick was also loyal in his visits to the cemetery to place flowers on his brother William and other family members' graves.

He looked forward to time with his family and sharing stories and memories of growing up around Beloit. He relaxed by carving wood and sharing his creations; he also enjoyed the company of his favorite dog, Lady.

Dick is survived by his brother, Robert of Ogallala, Nebraska; daughters, Elizabeth (Gary) Gatz of Newton, Janet (Dave) Wallace of Newton and Sallie (Dave) Schroeder of Twin Falls, Idaho. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
