John W. Renfro
HESSTON - John W. Renfro, 79, died Sunday (Feb. 28, 2010)
after an illness of three months.
He was born on Aug. 23, 1930, near Douglass to Ray G. and
Frances Shackelford Renfro. He grew up in a close-knit family including his
grandparents, Charles and Lydia Renfro, and as a young man, he worked for
farmers in hay fields, etc., and for the Douglass Grain Elevator in summers
while in school.
He was employed at Boeing for a few years after World War
II. He moved to Hesston and worked at Hesston Corp. for 35 years. On Aug. 23,
1952, he married Frieda Fulk. She passed away on July 6, 1987.
On Jan. 1, 1993, he married Frances Sutton Tierney in
Douglass. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Daniel Renfro of
Zimmerdale, Shirley Haden of St. Paul, Minn., Michael (Laura) Renfro of
Randolph and Gregory (Stephanie) Renfro of Wichita; grandchildren, Daniel
Renfro Jr., Angie Renfro, Amy (Greg) Reimer of Newton, Casey (Cathy) Haden of
St. Paul, Minn., and Elisha, Solomon and Abigail Renfro of Randolph, Leslie and
Ben Renfro of Wichita; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Joan)
Renfro of Mulvane, Irvin (Dorothy) Renfro of Las Cruces, N.M., and Arthur
(Elaine) Renfro of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and sister, Alberta (Arlie) Evans of Texas.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Ott
Funeral Home in Hesston, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hesston
Mennonite Church with Pastor Les Zook officiating. Burial will follow in
Hesston Cemetery in Hesston.
