Wiebe, Stella

The Newton Kansan

Stella Wiebe

Stella Wiebe, 94, died Tuesday (March 9, 2010) at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.

She was born on March 30, 1915, in Aberdeen, Idaho, to Abe and Marie (Sukau) Enns, the first of two girls.

Stella married Walter Wiebe in 1935. They had three children: Sharon (Wayne) Stucky of North Newton, Paul (Eleanor) Wiebe of Fort Collins, Colo., and Miriam (Gary) Crehan of Kent, Wash. She leaves behind six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by her sister, Elva (Ronnie) Funk of Pocatello, Idaho.

Stella lived the first 75 years of her life in Aberdeen, where she and her husband ran a grocery store and, later, a clothing establishment. After Walt's death in 1974, she retired to a life of gardening and taking care of her mother, who died in 1988 at the age of 95. In 1990, she sold the family home and moved into Kidron Bethel.

She was a lifelong member of a Mennonite church and was known for her pleasant demeanor.

Cornerstone Cremation of Wichita handled the arrangements.

A memorial service will take place in June in Aberdeen, Idaho.
