Obituary

Selena M. Lay, 95, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2017) at Lexington Park in Topeka. She was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Hope to Jess and Rosalie (Zollinger) Langhofer. On June 1, 1941, she married Stuart C. Lay and he preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2001.

Selena was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Newton, where she was an active member of the Women's Fellowship group. She retired as a baker from the Newton south Dillons and also worked at the Newton Presbyterian Manor. Selena looked forward to socializing with her friends over coffee and rolls. Several years ago she moved to Topeka to be closer to her sons and their families, who she greatly looked forward to spending time with.

Selena is survived by her sons: Tom Lay (Jodi) of Topeka, Galen Lay (Barbara) of Hiawatha and Craig Lay (Kathleen) of Kansas City, Missouri. Selena also has nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren who survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Charles A. Lay; granddaughter, Kristal Radford; six brothers: Walter, Chester, Elmer, Edgar, Emmett and Alden Langhofer; and two sisters, Melinda Bernhardt and Laura Ayers.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday (Sept. 29, 2017) at Petersen Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 28, 2017), with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Hope (two miles north and one-half mile west).

Memorials are suggested to First United Church of Christ in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
