Obituary
Jack Kenneth Johnson, 88, of Wichita,
died Friday (Sept. 29, 2017) at the Robert Dole V.A. Medical Center
in Wichita.
He was born on June 16, 1929, in
Newton, the son of Clifford and Catherine Vienna Norton Johnson. Jack
graduated from Newton High School in 1947. He served in the U. S.
Army during the Korean Conflict.
After being discharged from the
military in 1953, Jack returned to Newton. In Newton, he worked at
the Superior Food Market and McCall's Shoe Shop. He later moved to
Wichita, where he worked at Lloyd's Shoe Store and A.J. August
Menswear before becoming the office manager at Player Piano until
retiring. Through the years, Jack had been a window trimmer for many
merchants in Wichita.
While in junior high school, Jack
became interested in marionettes, for which he would later teach
classes. He was a member of the National Puppeteers Society and an
active member in community theater in the Wichita area.
Jack loved meeting people and will be
remembered for his bright smile and missed by many.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl
Desjardins and Lisa White, both of Euless, Texas; brother, James K.
Johnson of Newton; grandchildren: April Vienna Phillips, Chad Austin
Lowe, Christina White and Alec White; great-grandchildren: Breanna
Phillips, Rayburn Dean Phillips, Jolie Lowe, Christian Lowe and
Austin Lowe; and many friends around the country.
Graveside services with military honors
will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2017) at the Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton.
There will be no visitation or viewing.
